Round Up

A week of decent films in this edition of the round up. But an easy stand out for the pick of the week.

The Dead Girl (2006) 1
L.A. Confidential (1997) 1
Domino (2005) 7
Holy Man (1998) 1
Rumor Has It (2005) 6
Mission to Mars (2000) 8
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) 9
Leatherheads (2008) 6
Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) 7
Resident Evil: Extinction (2007) 7
Victor Victoria (1982) 6
Bloodrayne (2005) 1
The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984) 6
Dog Day Afternoon (1975) 7

The pick is of course X-Men: The Last Stand. This movie is just as good as the first two. For any fan of the Marvel comics you will no doubt enjoy this movie. There is plenty of good action scenes and the story is great. The special effects are fantastic and they enhance the story perfectly. If you have not seen the previous movies or at least had experience with the comics then I would recommend checking those out first. Otherwise you may be a little lost. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed.

Round Up

It was kind of a slow week this week. But here are the scores:

A Perfect Murder (1998) 6
Marley & Me (2008) 8
Sixteen Candles (1984) 5
The Covenant (2006) 6

The pick of the week has to be Marley & Me. For anyone who has ever had a pet then this is a must see. Even if you have the worst pet in the world they are still there for you and show you unconditional love and friendship. They become a part of your family just as much as a child or sibling. It is an extremely touching movie and if you have ever been one to get choked up at a movie then it is almost a guarantee at this one.

In other media I read 30 Days of Night: Bloodsucker Tales, RASL Vol. 1, and The Complete Peanuts: 1953-1954.

Bloodsucker Tales is probably my least favorite of the 30 Days of Night thus far. The first story "Dead Billy, Dead" was good but the second story "Juarez, or Lex Nova and the Case of the 400 Dead Mexican Girls" was just kind of bizarre and honestly was not all that good.

I was kind of unsure about whether I would like RASL I mean Jeff Smith is coming off of Bone which is a pretty high mark. But I have to admit that it really is awesome and Jeff has done it again. If you have not already then check it out and if you have not read Bone yet you should be ashamed.

Peanuts is of course a classic loved by all and in this volume we are introduced to Pig-Pen and Charlotte Braun. We also see Linus start to develop a fondness for a certain blanket.

That is all for this week folks! See you next week!

Roundup

Just an average week. Say some movies read some books. Here you go:

Revenge of the Nerds III: The Next Generation (1992) 5
Revenge of the Nerds IV: Nerds in Love (1994) 5
Code Name: The Cleaner (2007) 1
Because I Said So (2007) 7
Bedtime Stories (2008) 8
101 Dalmations (1996) 7
102 Dalmations (2000) 3
Icebreaker (2000) 1
Basic Instinct (1992) 7
Aliens (1986) 8
Alien 3 (1992) 7
Striptease (1996) 5

This week's pick of the week is Bedtime Stories. It is your usual Adam Sandler family type comedy. So there is not a ton of surprises here. If you are a fan of his previous works then there is a good chance that you will enjoy this as well. Adam does a good job playing the uncle of two kids that have quite the overactive imaginations, He finds that crazy things seem to happen each night after he tells the kids a bedtime story. Also be sure to watch for Rob Schneider and a little something unexpected. Overall it is a decent comedy with some pretty good laughs.

In other media I finished off Calvin & Hobbes, SomethingUnder the Bed is Drooling, and 3o Days of Night: Return to Barrow. All of which were great. Let's face it Calvin & Hobbes is a classic and Bill Watterson never ceases to amaze with his terrific insight into the lives of a boy and his imaginary friend. The 30 Days of Night story just keeps getting better with each series. Start with the original and if you like it and I am pretty sure you will then move on through the rest of the books.

Roundup

Thanks to the HBO/Starz free play I was able to get in a good amount of newer movies. Here is this week's list:

The Brave One (2007) 7
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007) 7
My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006) 6
27 Dresses (2008) 6
Everyone's Hero (2006) 6
I Know Who Killed Me (2007) 6
Racing Stripes (2005) 7
Shrek The Third (2007) 8
Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium (2007) 6
30 Days of Night (2007) 7
Sunshine (2007) 6
Transformers (2007) 8
A Very Merry Daughter of the Bride (2008) 5
Unaccompanied Minors(2006) 6
Mr. Woodcock (2007) 7
Music and Lyrics (2007) 5
Smokin' Aces (2006) 1
Waitress (2007) 6
Daddy Day Camp (2007) 4

The pick of the week was an easy one this week. Despite having some pretty decent films to choose from I have to go with Transformers. For anyone who grew up with the show and the toys they will easily love this movie. But even if you are new to the concept it still is an awesome movie. The special effects are top notch. The story was fantastic and even the acting was pretty good. Shia LaBeouf has really been doing some great stuff these days and this continues the trend.

In other media this week I read The Complete Peanuts: 1950-1952, Rose, and Incognito #1. All of which were great.

Anyone who has ever read Peanuts (who has not really) will probably be interested in reading this first volume which collects the first couple of years of the strip. It is fascinating seeing how the story began and how it developed in the beginning.

Rose is great. The artwork is fantastic and the story is done very well. If you have not yet read Bone (what are you waiting for?!) then you will probably want to read that first as this is a prequel to that story. It is great to see how things began prior to the Bone story line and to learn the stories of Rose Harvestar (Granma Ben) and Lucius.

I also finished Overlord on the XBox 360 and must say that this game is damn fun. It mixes a slightly open world environment with a fantasy realm where you play an Overlord who uses his hoard of minions to defeat his enemies, plunder, and or terrorize the villagers (if you choose). The story line is very intriguing and quite hilarious. It will bring you right in and make you feel like a part of the world. All of the characters that you meet on your journey are all quite creative and imaginative. Go ahead and give it a go and most likely you will enjoy it.
